Poster;

 I am using this poster idea which i created through cutting a picture i had taken of the male character so the main artefact of the poster is the knife and added effects and edited it so it is dark and grainy. I will use one of the 3 pictures below as the blurred face of the female character as she looks scared and confused in them.

Interim reflection/evaluation;

29th January;
I have nearly finished editing and have already created some mock examples of posters, also i have been looking more in depth of how different online magazines are written and worded so i will start to create rough drafts of that soon. I think i am on good timing for the deadline and feel i can have all of this done by then.

Strengths; i created a good timescale in which i stuck to and had filmed quite quickly so that i had more time to edit and create my poster and review, also as i already knew well how to use iMovie this made editing a lot easier and quicker for me.

Weaknesses; Due to the weather when filming the first time my storyboard had to change, although it is not how it was planned i feel changing it to happen throughout a couple of days looks and works better with the storyline. Also having a part time job meant that i couldn't do much work out of school so it has to be done in the time i have in lessons and also free periods.

Outcome; I feel the outcome of my short film is how i wanted it to be, i had a good opportunity to film in a pub which made the whole of the middle of the film work a lot better because it created a social and public atmosphere but this still didn't effect the males personality as he turns weird as the conversation progressed. Also that i have free periods to finish the project in.

Threats; Having enough time to complete all 3 projects.

magazine reviews;

I have been reading different reviews in magazines so that i can see the difference in them and online reviews, I have looked at Empire although I am not using this I like how the reviews of Sherlock Holmes 2 and The Women In Black are written. I am now beggining to look at online reviews as this is how I am planning on showing my review.

hidden reasons in scenes;

In the scene of the male character within his house lighting a candle and looking as his knifes, I chose to use a dark purple candle as I wanted to imply that the male character has purposely put feminine comforts in his house, objects that are sterotypical of women, so that when he lures women in they feel like he is senstive and feel comfortable. This will juxtapose well with my representation of his real character.

Sound and Editing;

I have used the song 'the rose with a broken neck's' intro to go with the girl walking out of her house, this is because i want the sound to fit the characters emotions and it is a sad tune also the song is about being lonely. The sound of the male walking has a creepy tone to it so that it also fits with his characters personality. I have also added in sound of the wind in the shots showing the day turning in to night and the morning shot as it was actually windy outside in these shots. I added a door closing for when the girl walks out of the pub because the sound was not caught on the camera.

Sound;

I have been debating about the sound for my short film as it has a lot of digetic sound which works well with the clips, such as leaves crunching when the girl is running. I have added in a heart beat audio effect at the end when the girl dies to create a better atmosphere and i have chose part of a song which the title of my film is based on for the opening of the short film.

Beginning of the editing process;

I have successfully uploaded my footage and have completed a big chunk of the editing. I have placed each scene where it is meant to be and cut out unwanted clips, my footage now runs in the order of the storyboard and smoothly links together. I have also put an effect of 'day in to night' on some of the scenes which had to be filmed during the day due to lack of clear view to make them look much more dull and gloomy. Also i have turned the volume up on the scenes it is needed and deleted any other unwanted sound, i have slowed down the male characters voice at the ending to make him sound creepy.

This is the difference in the original shot to the one with the 'day in to night' effect; The original clips with no effects are along the bottom and the scene on the screen has the effect added to it.

With these shots of the females eyes opening and closing whilst she is dying i have used a 'glow' effect for the first opening and a 'black and white' effect for the rest, this is because i wanted to have an effect of the female passing out and it ending on a black and white blurred shot signifying her death.

I used the vignette effect on the scenes of the conversation between the characters, this is because it is from the males point of view and i think it makes this look like it is through someones eye due to the darkening sides being circular.

Poster experimenting;

This is a character poster idea, i took this shot during filming so that the setting is the same aswell as the character wearing the same clothing and looking the same. I have used various editing techniques to make the image look darker and gainy to get a more creepy effect, i also burred out the face of the male character because i do not want the audience to see him fully until the end of the short film, i have darkened the character so he is mostly black to show that he is dark and mysterious. I used the dialouge the male says when he kills the women as he says 'now its time to watch you wither and die' and just this down to 'wither and die' as i feel it is more bold and effective.

This poster idea is a shot i took of the setting of the woods whilst filming, i have darkened the bottom in to a curved shape so that it looks like the closing of an eye, this is shown from the females point of view when she is dying at the end which the audience will not know so it will make them wonder what the shot is from and what is happening in the scene. I have blurred the whole picture because it is when the girl is going uncontious and her sight is blurred, the text is separate and missplaced to go with this effect that she is feeling faint.

This image was also shot during filming but i have cut it to just the man holding he knife and a bit of the woods to show the setting, i have used vinette bluring around the edges to focus more on to the knife. I used an image of the female character and faitly placed it on the knife, if i used this poster i would use a more scared faced image of the girl. I have also darkened the image to create an atmosphere and placed the title at the bottom.

Location shots;

The woods and alley way.

Finished filming;

Due to bad rain on the first day of filming and lack of clear view due to outside getting dark early i decided to film the rest of my short film today. This doesn't resemble my story board as i had planned to shoot it so that the storyline is all in one day, i changed my mind on this because i thought it was unlikely that two people would bump in to each other on the exact same day and also i felt that the story happened all too close together and needed separation between the scenes. I have decided to keep the scenes from the first day of filming to show that it is on a different day which is clear because of the weather difference on the days, the scenes shot were the female being kicked out of her house, her seeing the male help a women up and the male killing a women. i have also filmed outside getting dark and am planning to film the sun rising in the morning to show the difference of the days.

Today (6th january) the weather turned out to be good for filming my short film, i decided to change the time of day in which the male finds the female in the alley way so that it is clear and easy to see. Also because the female has had to sleep in the alley way because she was thrown out of her house she isn't likely to stay there all day so i chose to change it to the morning/midday so she is more likely to still be there from the night before. After this i filmed the pub scene and then the scene where she walks out of the pub and in to the woods getting away from the man which worked out well because after filming the pub scene, outside was slightly dark which fitted in to the woods scene.
